LIGHTING UP THE NIGHT

"Lighting Up the Night" (11-24-09 8279[for blogger]) is a very old pic I just reclaimed this morning. I was delighted to finally decide those stepping stones (left and upper left) are OK. But, of course as my luck would have it, this then turned out to be one of those pix blogger just won't load as I see it in my other programs. So I had to darken the midtones even more so that all the background stuff wouldn't take over when viewed in this blog. As I see it in this post, it now looks the way I want it to. But I still can't rest assured that anyone else will see this pic on their screens as I've intended it to appear. Maybe, as I've said before, the problem is with my monitor and/or color settings. Ack. Frustrating to say the least. I guess I should be grateful this discrepancy doesn't crop up frequently, as I really haven't the patience or the inclination to try to figure out how to fix it. If there even is a fix...

IN THE AIR

"In the Air" (10-15-09 7551v2e), yup, another one found as I continue to (occasionally) archive and (mostly) delete from my over 10,000 pix. This particular version, though, was just morphed today from the original full pic rediscovered in that weeding process.

SERPENT'S TONGUE

"Serpent's Tongue" (10-1-09 7249v4) is yet another I came across as I'm going through my over 10,000 pix. Actually, to be more accurate, I just morphed this version this morning from a years old morph I found in that on-going archiving/deleting work. (BTW, those are the shapes of the petals in the original pic. I.e., they've not been distorted in Photoshop, though I did do plenty else to it in that program. I often point this out because one of the things that draws me to photograph something is its enticing shapes/lines. Meaning I don't always feel the urge to distort them, even if I'm torturing it beyond recognition in other ways.)

REFLECTING

"Reflecting" (9-4-09 6564) is another pic reclaimed in that process of weeding out my way too many saved pix. I used it years back on my other blog, in another version that approaches the abstract. But on seeing the original yesterday I decided I like it as is. All I did today was saturate the colors a wee bit to bring out that sky/tree reflection in the back, and paint out a tiny, dark, distracting bit on one wall. LOL! To think my eye would find that bit distracting in all this mess. But it did.

EARLY STILL LIFE

"Early Still Life" (8-26-09 6069e) may actually have been my first still life attempt. It's several years old, taken in my previous rooms, and I recall being rather pleased with it at the time. Which leads me to wonder why I've not tried more. Of course, I now have a couple mild hesitations about the pic, but overall still like it quite a lot. The arrangement of objects on the table wasn't done for the pic, BTW. It was how that table was already set up. All I did to prepare for the photo was to dust. [I found this pic again because I've been going through all my folders, from oldest forward. Deleting those that are clearly useless, and saving those that are questionable or maybe "historical" but otherwise unappealing, to a folder on my back up disk. It also means I'm deleting a lot of finally empty folders. The fun comes in as I find old pix I actually like "as is," or see might be reclaimed or morphed. Fortunately, I'm still managing to delete or archive a great many which is why I started this huge project (over 10,000 pix) to begin with.]

IN A CORNER OF THE WORLD

I could have just as readily called this pic Another Day in Paradise, as "In a Corner of the World" (2-15-15 004v2a). I was sitting at an umbrella table, chatting with two friends and this was the view. I could wish for better focus, but otherwise am fairly content with this photo. I had tried cropping out that overly sunny lawn (lower right) but the entire pic loses something that way. And I'm not enough of a perfectionist to painstakingly paint over that bright green section. Especially as it would need to be done in a textured way, not just flat painting out. So I'll let the pic be, flaws and all. It still captures something of what I felt grateful to enjoy as background accompaniment to the friendly conversation.

OORT CLOUD; & HEAVY THINKER

"Oort Cloud" (6-22-09 2656v10) was just morphed today from one of my oldest abstract pix. As was "Heavy Thinker" (6-22-09 2656v12) below (from the same pic):

Lots of fun fudging with these, even though I have quite a headache. Hm, that's probably the unconscious input into my thinking, if you will, about the title for that second version. And maybe even influenced my choice of very bright colors in the first. Though that feels more like a happy indulgence. I haven't worked in quite such vivid colors in some time and I have always been very fond of the effect of primary colors on black. (That fondness goes back even beyond my hippie years, to childhood.)
