SPIRIT IN THE SKY

OK, I had thought I'd try posting my less fussed with, older photos for a while. But clearly I can't stay away from fiddling with pictures. It takes me back to my youth (literally decades back) when I was doing acrylic and water color abstracts. I don't have one of them now. And as I recall they weren't much to "write home about." But it gave me great pleasure to work on them. Which is much how I feel about my "abstract" photos, or digital art, or computer art abstracted from photos ... whatever one might call them.

The title, "Spirit in the Sky," is also the title of an old song by Norman Greenbaum. The song that has been running through my mind since naming the photo this morning.

FRUITS OF FALL

"Fruits of Fall" is another one that is not necessarily one of my best. But it's also another one of those for which I have a certain affection. I remember the beautiful November day I took it in 2009. I've noted over the four fall/winters I've been living in California how the sparse fall/early winter roses in our community's memorial garden are often the most beautiful.

Re: the angle of this shot. When I pulled my camera out I was wishing I could get in closer (the above is cropped from a distant shot) and down more on the right to get a better angle on that big bloom. But the reality of my knee arthritis, the rough ground, and rose bush crowded area did not permit this. I was going to go on about the colors (which I have only very slightly "saturated") and the camera I was using. But no more apologies for what I like. And I do like this photo.

SNOW OWL

"Snow Owl" may not be one of my better efforts, but I am so tickled by that resemblance to a snow owl at the center. I'm also in a perverse mood, thinking of winters back east when spring is well on the way here in California. Of course, I lived in New York city so I did not get to see things like snow owls or even snow banks. (Except after the occasional "blizzard" and those banks were piled there by plows and covered quickly with city grit.) Anyway, now that I have my computer back in good working order, I'll begin taking pictures again. So there will be plenty of spring photos here soon.

The color in this (almost two year old photo) was manipulated today from a blushing white and saturated a bit to bring out the shadows.
