EGG OF THE CHIMERA

Egg of the Chimera (9-12-13) is a very new photo, just fussed with this morning. It's from that folder I posted pix from yesterday. (The tree trunk became the "egg.") My first attempts were aimed at a straight forward crop, no fussing. But it just wasn't working. So I gave up and began applying filters to it, even repeating some, more than I have so far on any other picture. (Was sort of experimenting to see how long it would be before its quality totally degraded.) Then I found I liked this result and stopped trying filters and percentages and angles. Of course, then I had to fool with the colors, but that took less time. My old 1960's hippie self jumped up and down at these. BTW, this is one of those pix that really looks better larger so I suggest clicking on the photo. In most browsers you'll get a bigger version to view.

RETURN TO THE SEA, & SWEPT AWAY

Return to the Sea (9-13-13) above, was just taken yesterday (and worked on this morning). I was fascinated by the peeling bark on the tree next to where I was sitting and have a folder of pix of it. Close-ups, long shots, and so on. As I had thought while snapping away, I didn't have to do any twisting of these shapes, they are as they were on the tree. Though obviously I did other stuff to the original of this photo: cropping, color inversion, accenting the edges, and then flipping it on its side and a wee bit of color saturation.

Swept Away (9-12-13) below, is from the same much larger original photo, cropped and flipped upside down, and with very little fussing done other than color inversion:

FABRICATION

Fabrication (9-12-13) was just taken and worked on today. I've changed my daily routine so that I'm now going out early for a walk, before I work at my computer. Which means I'm frequently returning to my rooms with a camera full of pix. I was about to give up on today's folder of photos when this one showed up on my screen. In a last ditch attempt to produce something I could feel OK about posting I'd tried some new photoshop functions, on top of the usual suspects. And voila! This quirky picture that puts me in mind of the threads of a thinning fabric. I then tried many different color combinations, but stuck with this old favorite.

CORNUCOPIA

Cornucopia (9-11-13) was just taken and worked on this morning. It's in a big batch of pix that I took with the wrong setting. Dummy forgot to check the auto settings and took them all in "landscape" instead of "close up." The picture out of which I cropped "Cornucopia," however, came out fine. I was just drawn to fiddle with one little piece of it. Most of the photos from today will also probably get massively fussed with due to that wrong setting. Except for a few rose pix that given their location had to be rather distant shots so the "landscape" setting worked fine.

CLOSE-UP SHOT

Close-Up Shot (9-7-13) is a very new photo, just cropped this morning. And for a change, that's all I had to do to it: crop. Absolutely nothing else. No color saturation, no "painting" out of distracting areas, or anything else. (Not like yesterday's small rose photo with which I had to fuss quite a bit.) Maybe it's because today's subject was such a beautiful rose it just couldn't have a poor picture taken of it. :-) Interesting that this happened after all my complaining here yesterday about not getting the sorts of straightforward shots I'd like.

HOW'S ABOUT A KISS

How's About A Kiss (9-7-13) was taken only a couple days ago and finally "finished" this morning. I put that word finished in quotes because just like my poems my photos are always up for further clean-up and even total revision. In any case, I thought I'd post a straightforward shot here for a change. Since I've been indulging my leaning toward the non-representational or at least quirky and suggestive, I tend not to take photos with the literal in mind. What tends to grab me about a potential shot is some shape or shadow, or relationship or angle between objects, not that it's, say, a gorgeous bloom. And even when I take a picture hoping to capture it "as is," I'm too often disappointed. I'd be inclined to say that's my lack of tech knowledge (e.g., shooting in bright light) but I used to get a great many more good straightforward photos when I was using my first (old Gateway) camera. So I don't think it's all my resistance to really applying myself to learning tech stuff. Though finances may finally force me to do just that. That is, try to make do with my current (limited but serviceable) Samsung by trying out things I've already located in its manual, rather than spend money on a new camera. Ah, well, as always, I'll kiss all this up to experience and continue to enjoy experimenting with whatever pictures show up on my computer screen.

Quick note on the title: I keep thinking that to be correct grammatically it should read "How About A Kiss." Yet, some part of me insists that I've almost always heard it said "How's About A Kiss," so I'm leaving it that way. Of course, just because "everyone" says it that way doesn't make it right. But it could make it idiomatic, which I like. :-)
