HOLDING ON FOR DEAR LIFE

"Holding On For Dear Life" (1-26-17 024v2b) is from a very new pic. More of those tree roots I so enjoy looking at. Had a hard time finding/working on a pic of them for posting. I think it's because I like them so much in nature, that I have awfully high expectations of any pix I take of them. Maybe some day I'll manage to snap and/or morph a photo that comes really close to what I feel looking at the roots live. This one isn't bad but it does have a contrast issue I gave up trying to fix.

TWIZZLE

"Twizzle" (1-27-17 017v2i) was just morphed from a very new pic, one of those of the fabulous tree roots of which I so often take shots. I'd really suggest clicking on it to see all the little details. As ever, I have a slew of other versions of this same pic/crop. What fun! Here's the source of those several versions, including "Twizzle," it's called "Seeking the Light" (1-27-17 017v2):

Didn't do much to "Seeking the Light" but sharpen it, diffuse it a little, and heighten the color contrasts. Clearly, I messed a great deal with "Twizzle" in Photoshop.

WATER DRAGON RACE

"Water Dragon Race" (1-24-17 008v2c) was just now fudged out of a pic I took on my long walk today. It's of tree roots (how unusual I'd be drawn to photograph them ... smile). I cropped and flipped the pic (180 degrees), and then inverted the colors and fudged with them a little. I also did some diffusing and sharpening, but those are the actual shapes of the roots and leaves, in dappled light, as they appeared today. (And, sigh, I'm still not happy with the colors. There's something muddy about them I can't quite fix. Ah well, maybe some other time...)

HOLDING UP THE SKY

"Holding Up the Sky" (1-18-17 014v4) is another of those from a recent wandering through Anisqoyo Park in Isla Vista on a foggy mid-day. I've fussed a few OK "artsy" versions out of it, but I still like this straight forward one best. Nothing can really improve on what nature gives us. Yeah, I know I've made changes to nature simply by choosing which trees and at what angles to shoot. And then how to crop the pic. But this is closer to what I saw. Yep, and even what one sees involves visual editing and one's personal foreknowledge of "treeness" or one would see nothing but a confusing mass. Guess I have to admit to being in a very "stick close to the truth" mood, or rather, figure out the truth. Quite a task (smile). A bit like trying to first reach the sky, and then hold it up.

BIRTH OF THE BLUES

"Birth of the Blues" (4-27-15 053v3b) was just morphed from a going on 9 month old pic -- guess it had gestated long enough (please forgive that bad pun, smile). I mostly like the colors in this one and the "texturing" (which can be seen better in a larger version, so click on the image if you're interested).

GUARDIANS OF THE NIGHT

"Guardians of the Night" (1-18-17 010v4) is a new pic just "finished" this morning. And, as ever, has several other versions after it. I do have a compositional problem with it but have given up trying to do anything with it (that central black space). Maybe someday I'll take the time to learn some new Photoshop skills, especially the one for cutting something out and/or replacing it with something else. (All I really want is to make it almost any other and softer color so it doesn't stand out so much.) But today's definitely not that day. I need a guardian myself, to keep me from doing something off the wall right now. Thanks heavens for writing poems and working on pix, and on my other blogs; they do calm me for the time I'm engaged in these efforts.

COME TO ME, IF YOU DARE

"Come to Me, If You Dare" (5-27-11 11035ev5) was just now morphed from a very old pic (along with several other morphs, as is often the case). Usually I see this large birdbath figure we used to have in our garden as being bashful or at least hesitant, and sometimes as being spied on (as in the Goddess Diana and hunter Actaeon myth). But these colors put me in mind for some reason of the myth of the Sirens. Therefore, the title.
