THE CATERPILLAR'S DREAM

"The Caterpillars's Dream" (5-30-10 10009v9) is another recent morphing of a very old photo, done during my on-going archiving/deleting project. Not much else I can say about it, except that the original is a daytime shot of an agapanthus blossom among canna lily leaves. I got lots of shots of that scene four years ago, around this same time. Sadly, in doing this thorough, pic by pic review of my years of photos I'm seeing how the drought has affected our flora. Not that I'd expect it to be otherwise. But add to that the personal memories the pix elicit, and it's a challenge to keep my mood from shading way over into the blue. And just stay with the interest, and sometimes delight, that the pix and my work with them now produces. I suppose I could also be grateful I still remember where I took each pic, and what was going on in my life at that time. That those brain cells are still lively.

WAITING FOR SPRING

"Waiting for Spring" (4-16-10 10002v3) is another of those (four year) old pix, but this time I did no editing when I came across it during my archiving/deleting project. It was just as it is now. Though clearly I'd edited it back when I took it, and I wonder why I'd not posted it back then. Guess it's one of those that just slipped between the cracks. In my defense, it's quite a challenge to track over 10,000 pix and not forget about a few along the way. Well, it's several hundred less than 10,000 pix since I started the deleting and archiving. But that's still a bunch to deal with. Of course, maybe someday I'll learn to use Photoshop's "Category" function. That way I could label pix by, say, "leaves & trees," "architecture," "blossoms," "people", and so on. I would even like to have labels for color, and place taken. The ancient little Adobe program I had (that was no longer supported by Adobe, and that I had to give up when getting my new computer a few years ago) had a very basic category ability. And it was quite a help. Of course, I probably should figure out "Categories" in Photoshop now so that I can be giving photos categories as I continue to review them in this archiving/deleting process. I have five years worth of folders left yet to go through. And since I've already weeded out the previous two years' of pix, going back over those again to assign categories would go fairly quickly. Seems I've just given myself another project.

A CERTAIN FLARE

Continuing my love affair with canna leaves, here's "A Certain Flare" (5-12-10 10013v3). One of those many, many new versions I've been making of old pix. This was taken about the same time (four years ago) and in the same place as yesterday's pic. I have a brand new batch of bright green ferns unfurling photos. But thought I'd get up at least a smattering of these older pix before I start posting any new ones.

THE CHANGELING THRIVES

"The Changeling Thrives" (5-14-10 10001v4a) is just one of gazillions of new versions of old pix I've been producing while on my blogging vacation. I've also been stacking up dream poems for my other blog, but those don't get cranked out at more than one (on rare occasions, two) at a time. Whereas pix? Depending on the number of pix in a folder I could make anywhere from one to a dozen new ones at a shot. So I'm beginning to itch to post some of those pix. And this is the time of year that the flora in this photo are usually popping. But not so much this year, probably due to the drought. Though we still have a lot of lovely growing things to enjoy on our grounds. The title to this one? For anyone not familiar with these particular plants, that's an agapanthus blossom in a tumult of canna lily leaves. It was taken four years ago by our pool. We have some canna leaves growing there now, with a few of their bright orange blossoms, but it's not quite the display it has been in years past. And I haven't noted any agapanthus blossoms anywhere yet. (BTW, for anyone familiar with my dreams & poetry blog, as well, I'm still on spring break there.)
