THE SOURCE OF ALL GEMS

"The Source of All Gems" (11-26-17 024v3b) was taken very recently and just now fudged into this shape/condition. It's certainly nothing to write home about, but I like it. Mostly because I relate it not only for the sacred lotus (at bottom of pic) but for a vague suggestion of the High Priestess in the Tarot over all. (It's said the waters trailing from the High Priestess's robes are the source of the water seen anywhere else in the 78 card deck.) The rough gems are those five weird, sorta multi-colored blobs above the lotus. (I re-colored them, BTW, to make them "pop" a bit more.) They were actual gem stones of which I took pix, against a piece of patterned purple cloth I use to cover my computer screen at the end of a work session. (Which cloth is actually a solid purple with the patterns vaguely "see through." So its colors, too, were fudged with.) I took many other photos that day of many sorts of gems that a friend left with me to play around with for pix. I'd not had much hope they'd be good pictures of gems. I've never applied myself to learning how to take proper pix of shiny, glittery things. But did hope for some interesting templates for photomorphs. And that I did wind up with. Of course, each time I open this folder I find myself trying to "reclaim" them as decent photos of the gems. A frustrating effort, but it leads to some intriguing failures that I then morph into something else. Like today's "The Source of All Gems." Kinda like life, ain't it? Hope for one thing, get another. It's what you do with what you get that matters. Yikes! I'm thinking too much again.

WINTER WIND

"Winter Wind" (8-21-17 009v2g) was fussed some time ago from a pic taken this past August. Again, of some of the trees in that park in I.V. I so enjoy wandering through. As I said here yesterday, I'd planned to take my first long walk in ages to it today. But I had a feeling I'd do better to get a lot of the little chores around my rooms done, and let my right knee have one more day of (relative) rest. LOL...of course, I'm using the time to work here at my computer. Who wants to do house chores? Truth be told, years back when I had knees and high energy, I did enjoy house cleaning and organizing. Well, not so much the doing of it all, as the results. Now the knowledge of how much more tiring and time consuming the doing is, tends to outweigh the presumed results so that I've become a champion procrastinator. One more hazard of old age. But, at least so far in my dotage, I still always have the energy and time for writing poems and fudging at my pix. Today's pic, "Winter Wind," was tortured quite a bit back when first taken. And just now I did some more work on it. To increase the contrast, and to sharpen some of it where the wide angle lens brought in a bit of a blur. This is one of those times that the wide angle lens distortion worked, though. It added to the over-all feeling of wind, stretching some of the leaves at the sides of the pic. I then had only to sharpen those areas a bit, using the Photoshop hand-dandy "lasso" function. Isolating those areas that needed sharpening, from those that didn't. It was a challenge, BTW, to find just how much sharpening to do. I left the entire pic a wee bit "soft" as I feel it better portrays the sense of wind.

BRAIN STORM

"Brain Storm" (12-30-17 006v6) is from a pic taken at the end of the year, fudged with then, and just now further edited (slight re-alignment and cropping, and the sepia tone added). I may actually make it to this park tomorrow as I'm thinking I am now up to taking long walks again. If so, I'll probably come back with a camera chip that's chock full of pix. BTW, the camera I'll be using is a loaner. A higher end Fuji-Film than the one I have, and (yay!) not wide angle lens. It'll be fun to see how different the pix will be.

DOWSING

"Dowsing" (1-18-18 006v2) was just morphed from a fairly new version of a recent pic. Guess the fact that we're still in a drought here in South Central CA has registered on my unconscious. Every one of several versions along the way suggested dowsing to me, looking for ground water.

HOW CAN I KEEP FROM DANCING

"How Can I Keep From Dancing" (12-30-17 004v4) was just very lightly edited -- cropped, slightly color-saturated, diffused, and sharpened. (It's one of those probably best viewed in a larger version as it has lots of fussy little details. So just click on the image if you're interested.) Haven't been in a long walk to see these trees and all the others in this park, in way too long. The list of reasons is now longer than my right arm. The most recent development: both my knees have been giving me hell for days now. But I'm determined they'll improve enough to allow for long (if even slower) walks again. Which will up my picture-taking, which has sunk to an almost all-time low. Though I have been greatly enjoying wandering/working among the thousands of old pix I have on my 'puter. Today's, by the way, is not old. It was taken right before New Year's this year.

RUMORS OF LIFE BEYOND

"Rumors of Life Beyond" (8-18-09 5770v10b) was just now morphed from an ancient pic of mine (one of my earliest); the same pic is also on my dreams&poetry blog today in a totally different version. (See link later below). What to say about it? Clearly I messed with it to my endless satisfaction in both Photoshop and MS Picture Manager. Yeah, mostly satisfaction ... though I do think it's now a bit over-edited. Ah well, I'll just leave it here as a cautionary post to myself about doing so much fussing at a pic. :-) BTW, I've not posted here for several days because my google chrome program would not open and I was having a devil of time trying to figure out how to save my universe of bookmarks in it, on uninstall/reinstall. Not even chrome's program folder on my computer would open. And though there is a program touted to copy things like bookmarks from one program to another without opening either of them, I'm wary of downloading such unknown "entities." Ditto for registry cleaning/clearing programs. And I can't use I.E. for blog posts as there's an ancient "enmity" between I.E. and the blog platform I use. It's been a known problem for many years, that neither "combatant" has cared to do anything about -- which is why I switched to chrome four years ago. Anyway, it's a relief to look forward again to making a daily post here, and to my dreams&poetry blog. [still working on the edit profile program to get my pic in the right hand column the proper shape ... ACK!]
