FRAMING THE MOOD

"Framing the Mood" (3-2-14 012v2) ... fog, damp, chilly air, with a promise of rain? Well, they'd be welcomed in our drought plagued area. That's probably what drew me to this years old pic of mine this morning. Not to mention it also reflects my mood, despite what appears to have been an uplifting dream last night. I suppose I should mention I've had this pic hanging fire for almost as long as I've had the original it was cropped from. I've always liked it and (as I often say here) also have an issue with it (the thickness of that tree trunk in the lower left). I've also wondered if it was too obviously taken to frame the "bells" and the foggy mountain; whether that works at all. But here it is, a pic I like despite it's "warts."

MORNING HAS BROKEN

"Morning Has Broken" (7-28-12 12087v11) was just now morphed from an old version of a very old photo of mine. It's only one of several I fudged out of that old version this morning. I kept feeling there was a picture there that I would like and was vastly relieved when this showed up on my screen. Or pretty much this, I then made some minor, judicious changes to bring out the shapes and colors. I didn't want to lose that softness, something I rarely achieve much less like in my pix. And I do like it here. BTW, the name is taken from the beautiful old Cat Stevens hymn/song of the same title. And, yes, I can just hear a particular person I know commenting in his rather dismissive tone on its somewhat old fashioned, hippie feel. Hey, what's wrong with old forms and styles? Cutting edge isn't all there is in this world, not by a long shot.

MOTHER OF PEARL

"Mother of Pearl" (7-28-12 12079v2c) was just morphed now from a very old crop of an even older photo of mine. And, as I often say here, I liked it a lot more when it first popped up on my screen pretty much in this form, when I'd applied the filter giving it that "pearly" look. But then I noted more changes I needed to make. As with everything else in life, make one change and other things change and/or then need changes that they didn't before. The older I get the more I experience how all things are one. But not one mushy mass. Rather, a massive interconnected whole containing many varieties in various relationships within it. A giant picture we only see the minutest (nay, most nano) pieces of. Fuss with an even tiny particle of it, and something else we weren't aware of that it's connected/related to is effected. Sorry for that digression. In any case, I do still kinda, sorta like this pic, especially the colors .. despite the little things I haven't yet found a way to "fix".

TO ONE SIDE

"To One Side" (8-16-16 010v2) was taken yesterday and just now worked on. It was quite a simple fix up; somewhat unusual for my shots. However, it did and still does to my eye, have a problem in that sky. It glares a little bit, even with the color adjustments I tried and then a color filter I applied. However, it was taken on a mid-day with sun glare, as it was getting rather warm after a somewhat hazy and cooler start to the morning. Then again, just because a pic may reflect reality doesn't mean it's a balanced photo. And that bit of glare does grab my eye a wee bit too much. There are probably ways to deal with it in Photoshop that I haven't yet learned and will someday get around to trying. But not today. Today I'm as content with this photo as I ever tend to be with any of my pix.

PREPARING FOR TAKE OFF

"Preparing for Take Off" (8-10-16 015v2a) was one of those "I just got lucky" shots I took about a week ago. Lucky I happened to glance that way when I did. And then even luckier that the hummingbird didn't get spooked by me (ever so slowly and carefully) taking out my camera and snapping a couple of pix of it. The original shot is at a bit of a remove. I cropped it down to appear closer, and then fussed with color intensities and texture. I actually saw what may have been the same hummer, among the same birds of paradise today on my walk to the ocean view. But it flew off before I'd barely thought to get out my camera.

SNEAKING A SMOKE

"Sneaking A Smoke" (8-17-10 10020v2) was just fixed up from a six year old photo. Didn't need much, just cropping and some color adjustment. Not sure why I'd not done this long before now. Well, it's not really surprising given I have about 12,000 pix on my computer. And I only came across this one as I'm going through all (!!!) my pix looking for just the right one for the cover of a book of poems with a few pix of mine I'm designing. (For sale at my next photo exhibit in early October.)

EVENING FALLS

"Evening Falls" (3-22-16 007v3) was just morphed this morning from a several month's old pic. It's another one for which the full color, unfudged with version is fine. But "fine" just didn't do it for me today (well, honestly, it rarely does). So I began fussing at it. I made a couple other versions I didn't save, as this is the one that grabs me today.
