CLEARING THE WAY

"Clearing the Way" (10-5-15 007v2) doesn't give me much satisfaction. But trying to get shots of this view from the overpass above our front gate is never fully satisfying. As I've complained here many times before, I'm sure. However, this is one of the better shots I've managed to get, what with the obstructing foreground trees, and mid-ground pole and more trees. Any shot of this view (whether I'm hoping to capture that sky and mountains, or the construction site, or as in this case both) always looks so much better in my camera view screen than computer screen. That collapsing from 3D to 2D that happens between live view and the computer screen view reeks havoc, every time. Not to mention how the foliage always darkens way down, and the effects of the weather and time of day on shadows and colors and focus. All of which is probably more manageable for a more technically proficient photographer than I am. Bottom line? The reality is it's a tough shot to frame decently no matter the time of day or weather or anything else. This one's at least not terrible.

WE'LL MEET IN THE SKY...

Just made this version, "We'll Meet In The Sky..." (6-14-09 2400v2), from one of my oldest pix. I used to take lots of photos of the various staircases on our grounds. (The shadows those railings can cast are particularly intriguing.) And may find myself doing so again as the flora around here is going through tremendous drought changes. It's odd but I never realized until cleaning this pic up today that just about everything in it is pointing toward the sky.

OFFERING A HAND

"Offering A Hand" (4-19-14 006v3a) was just made out of an old photo. The folder is filled with other, older versions of the same pic and one other from today. (So, what else is new?) BTW, a lot more has been done to this pic than might be apparent. I reversed it, in a way, from an older, less realistic version to one that departs from the actual mostly just in color. Maybe that's why I like it. I may have reached a (very momentary, if so) satiation point with respect to very un-realistic pix.

BIG ROCK CANDY MOUNTAIN

"Big Rock Candy Mountain" (10-7-15 003v3n) is another of the many versions I've made from the same new photo. Not much to say about it as it's obviously been heavily morphed. It's one for which the title popped even before I'd finalized it. Something about the pic raised really old memories of the board for the children's game, Candy Land. (LOL! I've been having awful candy cravings recently, so this is not a surprise.) Anyway, I do enjoy looking at this pic. And enjoy recalling the Burl Ive's song in the title. (I was quite surprised on Googling, though, at how un-childlike the full lyrics are. Click on that link if you're curious.)

LACUNA

"Lacuna" (1-29-14 005v3) is from an older pic, just worked on yesterday. I also made three additional versions in differing shades of red/orange. But this magenta color grabs me most. Given those intriguing petals and shadows, one of these versions will probably inspire much more fussing at some point. Just to see where they can go.

MEDITATION

"Meditation" (10-24-10 10004v4) was just morphed this morning from a very old photo. I've always enjoyed the sight of this St. Francis figurine when vines have wound round it. (Though they don't often stay there very long before someone pulls them off. Smile.) I often wish I could be that still inside myself.

DRAGONFLY

"Dragonfly" (10-7-15 003v3r) is one of those pix that when it popped in its final form on my screen I almost yelped with delight. Of course, as always, I then began to pick it apart in my mind. Well, this time the delight stood up to that critic. I left it alone, so there! That's not to say I don't have several subsequent versions (I do). However, making a new version is not the same as trying to "fix" the little things that might cause me to question a particular version.
