ROCOCO; & THE VIEW FROM ABOVE

Rococo (2-8-14 012v2) above, is brand new, just taken yesterday and worked on this morning. As usual, those fern patterns have grabbed me. I've already fooled with other shots I took of them and know there will be more.

The View From Above (2-8-14 013v3) below, is one of those other shots. All I did though was saturate the colors a bit as it was an overcast day. I managed to restrain myself, this time. No promises for future versions. (OK, I fess up, there's already a vastly fussed with version up on my dreams & poetry blog.)

CANDLE

Candle (5-18-11 11001ev2) is an old photo re-worked several times over the years, and just finally cleaned up this morning. As I've probably said here before, the older I get the less patience I have for the sometimes painstaking "painting out" the background of a photo requires. And, in this instance, were I not so fond of the shape of this small calla lily I'd not have gone to the effort.

THE FABRIC OF SPACE-TIME

The Fabric of Space-Time (1-29-14 005v6) is from my newest folder of pix. A friend once asked in a puzzled tone, why I take photos anymore at all, given I just turn them all into "abstracts" anyway. Actually, I don't turn all into "abstracts," just most. :-) And I do hope to get straightforward shots when I'm actually out snapping. However I rarely do get what I was hoping for when I took the photos, once I see them on my computer screen. It's then that my imagination takes over. So the photos quite often do wind up acting as templates. I do think this may change a bit once I have a better camera. Many of my disappointing shots are due to my low-end camera. Though a new one is probably some way off so that friend will just have to be puzzled when he sees me taking new pix.

RUSTIC; & WINDING DOWN

Rustic (5-9-12 11935v6), above, is one of those for which I've posted other versions. Another photo with which I've become a bit obsessed.

And here's yet another version of this photo, Winding Down (5-9-12 11935v3):

DUNGAREE DREAM; & STANDING OVATION

Both pix today are versions I just made yesterday of one I posted the day before yesterday ("Chandelier"). I re-flipped the photo so the buds are oriented as they were live, and then obviously did a lot of fussing in Photoshop and MS Picture Manager. The one above is called Dungaree Dream (5-13-10 10015ev12). And the one below is Standing Ovation (5-13-10 10015 ev6).

What can I say about making so many versions from one photo that I haven't said here before. I become enamored of a picture's shapes, lines, contrasts, or textures, and keep coming back to see what else I can make of it.

DARK MOON ROSE; & ROSE FOR MAMA

Dark Moon Rose (8-30-09 6217ev4) is one of my oldest pix, just re-worked a few days ago. (I really miss the quality of pix I got with that old Gateway camera I was using then. Not a very high pixel count, but it left my current Samsung in the dust on close-up shot clarity.)

And here's another version of "Dark Moon Rose" that I just made yesterday, Rose for Mama (8-30-09 6217ev3). I've been thinking a lot of my mother since my brother's recent death. She died when he was only five (and I was ten). I like to imagine them together now, finally getting to know each other. She loved yellow roses, so this rose is for her.

CHANDELIER

Chandelier (5-13-10 10015ev2), yes, of course, is another old photo fudged with this morning. I also just posted the version out of which I made "Chandelier" to my dreams & poetry blog, called "Imago." I flipped "Imago" on its head in order to make the resemblance of the buds to rain drops (hopefully) more apparent. I've definitely got rain on the brain given the drought here in California. And right now it's looking very promising for rain as I glance out my window. If I could type with my fingers crossed, I would, and add a prayer that it be a soaking downpour. In any case, "Chandelier" doesn't speak to me of rain as "Imago" does. "Chandelier" speaks of the light that new growth springs from and brings along with it.
