Good Vibrations is a recent edit of a new photo. Whenever I see those repeating waves of lines on these leaves I itch to bring them out even more. It took a lot of experimentation but this result comes close to what I feel when I see these leaves have reached their wide open stage. A sort of magic radiates. Guess it can be more simply expressed as spring's advance notice.

The Dream Tree is yet another from that new batch of photos I've been working on, just edited this morning. Clearly, I'm indulging my love of the purple/lavender family of colors with this one. However, it really does look best with the petals in these colors. I tried a wide range of tones and colors for the blossoms, even sepia, and this is truly best given all the other areas of the picture also get changed. That is, I don't have any program sophisticated enough to select one shape or section, and change only the color on that one. With the programs I have at present, all colors get changed in a photo, along a proportionate spectrum.

Wish I could more readily get this watercolor painting effect when working with pix, but more often I find the photos degrading into those wonky little boxes. Haven't figured out what makes the difference, even after a couple of years of playing around with pictures this way. Well, it keeps the process lively. I never really know what to expect when I click on any particular function, or combinations thereof.

The Proposition is from that new batch of pix I've been working in for a few days now, just cleaned up this morning and I really mean "cleaned up." I had to paint out lots of natural schmutzy bits that were distracting, once I'd found a crop I was happy with. And finding a decent crop was a challenge, too. But that's part of the fun of working with photos, IMHO. That constant dialogue between what I envision and what the picture will allow. In this particular photo (as in many, actually) it's the shapes and their relationships that most enticed me.

Duet is from that recent new batch of pictures, re-worked yesterday. Omigosh! I think having worked on this and it's association for me to singers is why I dreamed I was singing all sorts of songs last night. Odd, I sort of like this photo but did not enjoy those songs in my dreams. They all had such positive, even saccharine lyrics that clashed with the overall depressive setting of my dreams (and on-going waking mood). But back to this photo: I did lots of fussing with it. It's been cropped way down, colors inverted and changed again, with some sharpening and "despeckling." Though the petals wound their ways back through all this to a similar color as the original (which is a very pale yellow with deeper yellow centers) the outcome is vastly different in effect. Not to mention I really like that fuchsia, like lipsticked lips.

Promise of the Pinecone is from that first new batch of pix I've taken in ages, and was just re-worked this morning. Like the other two from that batch that I've posted here recently, it's OK. However, it doesn't inspire me to get out there and see what newer photos I might capture by the tail.

In the Thick of It is a very new photo, just re-worked this morning. I'm not all that jazzed about it, but do like those shapes and twists. I tried many different colors and finally settled on this single hue. It sort of echos the idea of an energetic struggle. In fact, it puts me in mind of the Five of Wands in the Rider/ Waite/ Smith Tarot card deck, which has a bunch of folk either fighting or playing intensely, wielding large staves. And a red/orange color is often associated with the Wands suit of the Tarot, as is the element of fire. Hm, have I just identified a possible Five of Wands for my Found Tarot project? I think so. (A link to "Roswila's Tarot Gallery & Journal," where I post Found Tarot cards as I find them in my photos, is on the right side of this blog.)
