PATH TO THE ISLANDS

I post "Path to the Islands" (11-4-16 023v2) mostly as a comparison with yesterday's pic showing the Channel Islands in the distance. This was taken on the same day as yesterday's photo and illustrates how the closer you get to the islands the more distant they appear. (See yesterday's comments for my thoughts on why this might be so.)

WHICH PATH CALLS

"Which Path Calls" (11-4-16 022v2) was just fussed out of a brand new pic. I kinda, sorta like the water color effect. It was actually the best way I found to reclaim a shot I had to crop so much that it became fuzzy. I took it at a great distance as I wanted to capture the Channel Islands looking larger than they do when viewing them from ocean's edge. A funny perception difference I've noted every time I get within viewing distance of the islands from blocks away. I would imagine caused by the perceived difference in size of the ocean in front of the islands.

SPACED OUT

"Spaced Out" (9-27-14 009v2f) is from an old pic that's been through various morphs. I just "finished" this particular one now. Well, at least I feel it's reached a point of rest. If only for the nonce, given how I tend to go back and fuss over pix. I actually have a lot of new pix I took yesterday on one of my long walks to the beach overlook. But they were taken with a different camera. (My regular one seems to have died on me at the Halloween Party. I swear there's a Halloween curse on my cameras. A brand new camera "died" on me at last year's party, too.) And I'm just not up to coping with its differences right now; I'm a bit spacey, like this pic.

HIGHWAYS AND BYWAYS

Yup, those contrails the other day really got my attention ["Highways and Byways" 10-30-16 003v3]. Wonder why there were so many in the sky that day, and in all directions? (See October 30 and 31 posts for other contrail pix.)

CROSSING THE LINES

Right off the bat: yes, this one ("Crossing the Lines" 10-20-16 020v3) has composition problems. All of which I've tried to "correct" with various crops. However, anything I tried was like throwing the baby out with the bathwater: the pic lost all its "oomph." So I'm leaving it as is, messy composition and all. BTW, this was taken from across the street, on a corner at which I almost always sit on my walker and rest, both coming and going, on my walks to the beach overlook.

SEEKING COMPANY

"Seeking Company" (10-30-16 010v2a) was just now fixed up for posting; another I took a couple days ago of those contrails that were all over the skies that mid-morning. I was standing right by the other bench (which is where I always sit if it's free and it usually is) when I took this shot. I had great fun trying different places to stand to see how it would change the angle and "feeling" of the contrails with respect to the ground and its objects. As I've probably mentioned here before about these beach overlook pix that I take, they are shot in very bright almost mid-day sunlight. So I never know whether I will be able to rescue them in Photoshop and/or Microsoft Picture Manager or not. I'm delighted when I can do so (at least to my own satisfaction). At the risk of repeating myself, there are probably ways to compensate a bit for the sun light with camera settings so I don't have to fuss a lot in post-production (and often fail to fix the pic). But I wish I had a nickle for every time I've read the camera manual with an eye to trying out some setting adjustments in bright light. And I promptly forget about what I read, or (more often) just don't feel like fussing. I just want to take the shot and keep shooting. Then there's the shot that really can't wait (the hummingbird or lizard, for instance). Ah well, time to get off this computer and finish my Halloween costume ... HAPPY HALLOWEEN!

LETTING OFF STEAM; & LINES OF COMMUNICATION

"Letting Off Steam" (10-30-16 008v2) was just now fixed up from a pic I took yesterday at the beach overlook park. The sky was full of jet trails at various stages of dispersion. Here's another shot, taken as I got close to home ("Lines of Communication" 018v2):
