NEXT, SHE CREATES THE FIRMAMENT

"Next, She Creates the Firmament" (2-12-16 003v2a) is total self-indulgence. Well, that's not to say I didn't work endlessly (or at least it seemed so) to balance the crop, improve the texture, and develop the "right" colors, etc., etc. Just that the "subject," if you will, is totally for my own pleasure. Whether anyone else "gets it" or not.

FIRST ROSE OF WINTER

"First Rose of Winter" (3-3-16 002v3) is that realistic pic I mentioned that's the source for yesterday's two morphs. Did some fussing with it. I used a filter called dark strokes (adjusting its parameters for the first time, that was fun!) to emphasize edges a bit more. Then I applied diffuse to soften the scratchy angles dark strokes introduces, and sharpened it a bit to counter the diffuse's blurring. I did some color fussing along the way, but didn't save it as that fuchsia and those leaves didn't really need it. Because when I took the pic I'd taken the time (I'm often too impatient to do so) to change the auto setting to portrait. Yeah, isn't that strange? Portrait with this camera works better outdoors in less bright light than close up. And it will auto-flash if the light is way too low. Portrait also tends to work better indoors than any other setting, even on more distant shots. So, I ask myself, why am I not using it more often? Good question, and so I will. (Of course, as I typed that I recalled how portrait when it flashes can sometimes produce a sort of outlining of shapes. Well, I'll just have to get used to taking shots with a couple of different settings. I already take shots from different angles, and holding my camera both vertically and horizontally. What's a little bit more fussing?)

EASTER EGG HUNT; & NESTING

"Easter Egg Hunt" (3-3-16 002v5) is for a change from a brand new pic, just taken yesterday. And I even have one realistic version that works (a fuchsia rose, one of the first since our rose garden re-leafed after its yearly buzz cut). But I like this abstract a whole lot more. Here's this same pic color inverted, with some additional color adjustment ("Nesting" 002v4) that I like, too:

SUCCULENT

"Succulent" (11-24-15 049v10), again as ever, is an old photo just morphed this morning. Nothing much else to say except that it was a more than usually long road to this "final" version. I did not really like any of its various incarnations along the way, yet also could not give up. It was rather a relief when this one popped in front of my eyes on color inverting it (for the umpteenth time). Finally! Something I can feel OK about posting.

THE DAILY MAZE

"The Daily Maze" (11-24-15 050v5) is one of several versions (as usual) of a fairly recent photo. I'm not mad about it, but have a particular fondness for the lines and shadows of these outdoor staircases on our grounds. In this one, of course, I'm emphasizing lines.

SUNSET GARDEN

Yep, "Sunset Garden" (8-30-16 10019v10) is the same pic as yesterday's post, just recolored. I had a devil of a time choosing which of the several versions I have of this pic to post because I like most of them. Which is odd, given I still have a little doubt about one corner of its composition. But, hey, if I've learned anything at all as I've made the journey this far into old age, it's that nothing's perfect, nothing.

GARDEN HAUNTS

"Garden Haunts" (8-30-10 10019v7) ... old pic, new version, one of a few others ... I really like the unmorphed source shot a lot, but it has one major composition problem ... have I worked around that in this massive morphing? ... not sure ... but I like it anyway. And, yes, another reference here to ghosts/hauntings. They're much with me these days, not in a literal sense but psychologically speaking. And those repeating lines? They're actually an accidental result of heavy editing that I sometimes choose to retain and even exaggerate because I like the effect. Smaller/shorter ones can also sometimes be deliberately created by fooling around with the settings under the plastic wrap filter.
