NIGHT OF THE FERNS

"Night of the Ferns" (6-20-16 008v2a) was just now morphed from a very new pic. My apologies if you're tired of pix of ferns; but not really, as I always enjoy looking at them (smile). BTW, this is one that really does need to be viewed in a larger version because of all the details. So just give the image a click and check it out.

DEFYING THE SHADOWS

"Defying the Shadows" (6-20-16 012v3) is a brand new pic, just fussed with today. I keep trying to get decent shots of these palms. This is one of the better ones I've taken in the past couple of years, I'd say. Maybe I should try taking a shot from ground level, instead of the second floor as this was. Of course, then the angles would skew as I'd be looking up ... sigh, today's not a good day for me even to attempt thinking about such stuff. Could you tell from the title of this pic? (Though I'm not actually doing a very good job of defying the shadows. They've pretty much taken over for now.)

WHAT REMAINS

"What Remains" (10-09-09 7454v3) was just made from a very old pic. What else to say about it? I've other versions and other shots of the remains that get dropped over time into this tree planter. It never fails to engage my interest when I'm in a picture taking frame (you should pardon the pun) of mind. And today my mood's focused on brokenness so I find its jumble fittingly poignant. BTW, I did very little to the original photo (cropped, diffused, sharpened, and selected colors saturated a wee bit).

AURA OF THE HIBISCUS

I stumbled on "Aura of the Hibiscus" (10-7-09 7391v5) opening folders at random, having decided not to fuss with any pic (don't have time) but find one already post-worthy. Was I surprised to see this one. I'd completely forgotten about it. But given how ready it was for posting, only needing re-sizing, I'd say it's probably listed in the messy collection of hand-written notes I keep of "finished" pix. In any case, I'm quite happy to share it here today. BTW, it's an old version of an even older pic (from 2009).

REFINERY

"Refinery" (8-23-09 5998v6) was just slightly tweaked. It's a very old version of an even older photo (among those of my oldest, actually). All I did today was to refine the crop a wee bit, and do a tiny bit of color adjustment to bring out the contrasts. The color adjustment was a challenge to get right as that glowing yellow became distractingly bright all too readily. I had to keep trying this way and that before I settled on it this way. Which, honestly, is not that far from where I started, but just far enough I think.

SUMMER GOLD

Yes, I'm foisting yet another fern pic on you. (And I even know the name of this type: fiddle head fern. It's new branches unfurl at the ends from a delightful roundness that is about the shape and size of a fiddle's head.) "Summer Gold" (6-20-16 004v4) is a brand new pic just fussed with now. It had a lot of distracting stuff down in the below/background that was fortunately mostly white or greyish so I could readily change the color to black. And I had a lovely time bringing out the sort of "wavyness" of the fern points using diffuse and sharpen. I also did a wee bit of blurring that resulted in the vaguely painting-like effect. I often take shots of dying green flora tangled in it's healthier surrounds. It's a contrast I like looking at, but don't usually get a good pic of. The word "tangled" being the clue there; there's always so much going on in a shot like that (at least in any I've taken). BTW, to really see the detail, click on the image for a larger version.

THINGS ARE LOOKING UP

...and I certainly hope that things continue to improve! Even a brief vacation from the deep funk I've been living with would be quite welcome. Both this pic ("Things Are Looking Up" 3-24-16 010v4a) and another light mood version were morphed yesterday afternoon from a three month old pic. As it turns out they were prophetic (if an inanimate object can be so termed, smile) as the evening held some very good news for me.
