OK, three more pictures I'm not all that jazzed about, but "nothing ventured..."

The one above, Metronome, is a relatively new photo, just edited today. I wound up deleting all but two in this folder of pictures of agapanthus as they were all just too fussy and messy. Even just to get this "bleh" picture I had to re-crop and re-edit endlessly. However, I am still drawn to those shadows and shapes behind/beneath the blossoms.

The one below is called Water Slide, and is way too reminiscent of others I've taken and edited of amaryllis blossoms. But I do like all those curves.

Just for comparison, here's "Water Slide" before I color inverted and lightened it. It's called Tasting the Light":

The three I'm posting today are very old photos, totally re-worked this morning. Like many of the pictures I've posted recently I'm really not all that happy with them. Yet there's something about them that draws me. But I'm not up to going back to the original version (for the umpteenth time!) and editing again. So, here they are, for good or for ill.

This first above is Off the Top of My Head.

The second (below) is Warming to the Thought:

And this last (below) is Night Sail:

The Visit is one I'll retake someday. But at the time (very recently) I was just too comfortable (read: lazy) to get up and move to get a better angle from within that gazebo.

The Fall was taken from that same gazebo seat. Which was where I'd had lunch and other than snapping what photos I could without moving, was where I was learning by trial and error to use the new-fangled "tablet" of my visting friend.

I just edited "The Fall" this morning and it definitely reflects my mood today. I've actually worked on several photos so far today and none (not even these two) really "do it" for me; some were just flat out failures. Hm, that reminds me of a quote by Thomas Edison that I recently put up on my dreams & poetry blog: "I haven't failed. I've just found 10,000 ways that won't work." Of course, I'm no inventive genius -- not even a legend in my own mind -- but maybe I should remember this quote when life gets rough as it has been for a few days now, and nothing -- pragmatically or artistically -- seems to work).

The Escape Artist is a brand new photo. I was hoping to find a way to make use in photos of that fence recently erected around my favorite patch of cannas. Not sure I've succeeded but I had fun trying. It's actually a white fence; I color inverted and did some other editing as well. I'd have stood at a distance to take the shots but one can't -- the only space between it and a wall and building is a narrow walkway. So I took this picture (and one other) with my butt against the railing. I could go inside the fence and shoot from the other side but that, of course, would totally change what canna arrangement I'm looking at, the light, etc. And I was intrigued by this particular batch of cannas.

Here's another version of "The Escape Artist," called Pastel Class. Not sure of that title; I'm playing with how it began to resemble an oil pastel in "texture":

And below is Nose Dive. Someday I'll remember to take some really close-up shots of these canna leaf stripes. I tend to become fascinated with them only once I see them on my computer screen and then it's too late -- wishing won't improve the focus much at that point. An initial tight shot would have made a difference here, though the picture may be non-representational enough for it not to matter.
