BEFORE...

The source pic that became "Before..." (8-23-11 11157v3) has been hanging around my computer for years. I've cropped it several times over that period of time, trying to get a good framing for those X'd palms (which was the shot I'd been after to begin with that day). I never have succeeded in that effort. So it was quite a surprise to open this folder today and immediately think that the full shot, uncropped (except minor cropping to get the proper proportions for the prints I order) is just fine as is, thank you very much. Even in full color its fine, except for the bright orange tee shirt that the guy was wearing. So I fussed a bit and got rid of that one orange hitch. Then I wanted to see if black and white would play up that sense of things just about to change that the pic has. And voila! I'm quite content with an old photo "reclaimed" after all this time. Another confirmation that my tendency to save so photos with which I have trouble may not be such a bad idea. (Yeah, would have saved myself some work if I'd converted to b&w before getting rid of the orange, but you know what they say about hindsight...)

OOPS! BETTER STOP DIETING...

"Oops! Better Stop Dieting..." (a/k/a "Captain's Chair," 1-12-16 001v2) was taken during one of our El Niño prompted rain storms. I had to walk the long way around to our Corner Store in order to avoid getting soaked. And when I caught sight of this chair I laughed out loud. The back story is what really gives it its humor, I'm afraid, though. For quite some time that chair had been the sole province of a hugmongous teddy bear, there long enough to display a change of outfits. (He looked rather handsome, if a little hung over, in his New Year's hat, I must say.) So when I spotted this tiny, puzzled looking smurf it was as if that bear had simply popped or evaporated ... where'd he go?

SHAPING UP

"Shaping Up" (11-24-09 8285ev3) (can you guess?) was just morphed from a very old photo. I gave it the old college try but couldn't reclaim the source crop as a straight forward rose center. So had a good time playing around with it. For quite some time I thought that that would be it, just unproductive fun. No complaint, that's fine too, except when I'm trying to develop a pic for this blog. But then this version shaped up and I'm happy (at least for now, smile).

THE CANNA LEAF SHUFFLE

"The Canna Leaf Shuffle" (1-5-16 newpicturev2) is from a rather old photo, just fussed with this morning. It's another of those I've always liked but had big problems with and tortured over the years trying to "fix." It's fun to have finally made a version I can feel good enough about to post.

IN SEARCH OF THE AUM

"In Search of the Aum" (12-8-15 002v3e) is from a recent pic, just morphed now. It's (as usual) one in a series of versions I made today. And also as usual, when each one popped up I liked it, then had second and third thoughts about it. I'm stopping at this one as much because of time restraints, as the fact that I like these colors best of the bunch so far. However, there are "background" areas I'd still like to re-color. And it could use a little brightening, yet I can't seem to get just the right amount (yet, smile).

STIRRING THE BREW

"Stirring the Brew" (5-7-15 5966e2a) was just morphed from a very old pic. What else to say about it? I'll admit to liking it. But, honestly, if I had more time I'd probably go haring off after something that grabbed me a bit more. Though I definitely like it more than the pic I posted just before with my daily dream poem. And that raises something I've begun to notice, more and more. Pix I produce just for the joy of it tend to turn out better IMHO, than those I work on to go with something (such as my daily dream poem). Not always, but frequently enough. Hm, an observation to ponder? Or just note and tuck away? And another BTW: those shapes in "Stirring the Brew" were not fudged with; they are the actual shapes of the petals and seeds at the center of a wide open rose.

NIGHT VISION

"Night Vision" (5-27-15 046v2a) was one of those that was both a fun and (relatively) quick ride to get to this place. The source pic is not a night shot (I can't remember the last time I tried a night shot; without a tripod, yeah, right, who's got the shakes?). But as I fooled around with the pic it seemed to suggest the night, if in a dreamy sort of way, so I went with that. This scene is only a small part of an area on our retirement community grounds that I tend to forget about on my photography walks. It has a lot of interesting and always changing things to appreciate and take pix of.
