FIRST IMPRESSION

First Impression (10-1-10 10014ev2) is a very old photo of mine, worked over a while back and then again this morning. Another of the many for which I have mixed feelings. I like the vague echo of impressionism in it, but ... ah, well, I'm never really satisfied. I don't remember if I've ever said this here before but I read a long time ago that in the disappointment a creative effort often brings in the end, are the seeds of the next work. LOL! I'm smothered in seeds at this point.

WINTER SONGBIRD

Winter Songbird (4-29-14 11810v2) is from that same folder of pix from last spring that I've been stuck in for a while now. It has such fascinating flower centers and other objects I've not felt a need to open other folders. I came across this folder when I was going through folders at random, attempting to clean out pix I can't see going anywhere (poor focus, etc.). But the same thing's been happening as when I've attempted housecleaning before: I wind up producing more new versions of pix than I delete.

BIRTH OF A UNIVERSE

Birth of a Universe (4-29-12 11815v2) is from last spring, but just fussed with yesterday. It's one of those happy accidents. I'd not expected to bring out the flower center that way and still keep the lovely soft blue cast to the rest of the photo. I can't even remember the series of Photoshop filters I put it through. (Though I think it involved inverting and re-inverting the colors and I know I applied accented edges, and then I fooled with color/hue changes in MS Picture Manager.) It's surprising it didn't start going wonky on me. Though it's not a vastly cropped shot so the pixel count stayed high.

FROM THE HEART OF WINTER

The original for From the Heart of Winter (4-29-12 11816v2) was taken last spring and I have three other versions of it. This one was just tortured out of one of those yesterday. (Click here to see one of those earlier incarnations.)

CRAB CONSTELLATION

Crab Constellation (9-2-09 6438v7) is a new version of one of my oldest photos. (Not surprising I'd see a crab of sorts in it, given my wonky mood.) I have two shots of this wide open rose, and many versions of both. They were taken with my first camera that had a much lower pixel count so they readily begin to degrade as I fool with them. But that doesn't stop me. Now that I have Photoshop I fall into thinking I can "fix" anything by twisting or fudging in some way. Which of course I can't. But at least I have fun trying. "Crab Constellation" is an example of one that threatened to degrade, by the way, which stopped me short at this not fully satisfactory version. Knowing me, I'm sure I'll go back some other time to the original pic and try again.

ALLELUIA!

Alleluia! (10-1-11 11306e) has been sitting in its folder as edited for two years. All I did to it this morning was to darken the midtones a bit to drop out some of the background which also increases the contrasts a little. I'm not sure why I've not posted it before. (I am quite tickled by those little petals that look like praying hands/arms; I also like the play of light and shadow.) Could be it just got lost in the shuffle as I have thousands of pix on my computer in various stages of disarray.
