BLOCKING THE WAY; & JACARANDA

"Blocking the Way" (2-7-10 19445v4) was just wrangled out of a very old photo this morning. One of those moody pix that keeps me hooked whenever I stumble across it. Of course I have not only other versions of this particular pic, but photos taken of the same corner from other angles, on other days, and in different lights. And they're precious now as a condo is being built on this corner.

And below is a totally different take, cropped from another photo of this corner of trees. It's called "Jacaranda" (2-7-10 19448ev2) and is a fantasy rendering of those bare branches:

RADIANCE

"Radiance" (3-21-10 10021v3) is from that old folder I've been working in so much recently. I'm not in very good space so don't know if I'm posting this based more in my fondness for these sorts of trees, or because it may be an OK pic. All I know is every pic I've looked at and/or attempted to work on this morning left me cold, until I came to this one. And it didn't even cry out for any fixing up in any way. So, here it is. (BTW, this tree is in Isla Vista where that tragedy was a week ago.)

LAYING IT ALL OUT

"Laying It All Out" (4-3-12 11551v3) is an old photo just ever so slightly fussed with today. (A wee bit of color saturation to bring out contrast and then painting over of a tiny distraction.) I made and posted a heavily cropped version of this shot quite some time ago. But realized when I stumbled across this uncropped original version that it is fine as is. And I'm very fond of this sort of fern in all its phases (as I've probably said here many times before). I have to admit it's always an extra pleasure to post an uncropped pic; it's such a rare thing for the way I take and work with pix. It's also always nice to have a realistic photo to post for a change.

REVOLUTION; FIRST IMPRESSION; & WALKABOUT DREAM

"Revolution" (4-19-14 005vc1) above, was teased out of a fairly new photo yesterday. Along with many others, two of which appear next. Immediately below is "First Impression" (4-19-14 005ve):

And this one below is "Walkabout Dream" (4-19-14 005vb):

I could go on posting from the many versions I have of this one image. But beyond being in a bit of rush this morning, I think too many might give a viewer visual indigestion. I found my own eyes struggling to refocus each time I switched between renderings. Hm, maybe that's telling me something about this "collection"? In any case, I chose three that give some idea of the wide range of "styles" in which this one photo enticed me to work.

THE FLOATING WORLD

"The Floating World" (5-3-14 2004ev2) was recently fussed out of a very old photo. The title popped into my mind as I started entering the pic info in my notebook for future reference. Then I vaguely recalled that "the floating world" references some philosophy or art movement so Googled the term. And found that it's "a genre of woodblock prints and paintings that flourished in Japan from the 17th through 19th centuries." That sort of fits with my sense that this pic might do well with an accompanying haiku. Maybe it's due to the somewhat parchment paper color overall.

LIFE SPRINGS ETERNAL

"Life Springs Eternal" (3-14-14 011vc) was just wrestled out of a recent photo this morning. I may very well have been influenced by that memorial post I made yesterday about the tragedy in Isla Vista, wanting to continue to affirm life. And it's certainly also appropriate as today is Memorial Day.

NEIGHBORHOOD WATCH (in support of the Isla Vista/UCSB community)

"Neighborhood Watch" (3-21-10 10006v3) was posted here some time ago. I'm re-posting it today in support of our neighboring Isla Vista/UCSB community after the mass shooting there the evening before last. Oddly, the old folder it's from is the one I've been saying for some time that I've been stuck in. It's full of Isla Vista pix I took. This particular corner is right where some of the shooting and car chasing went on. May this version I made of this pic quite some time ago be seen to radiate with a reminder that the vital creative life of the Isla Vista community cannot be taken away from them. No matter how assaulted and challenged. (By the way, it was titled "Neighborhood Watch" back when I first posted it.) And I cannot end this post without putting out my deep hope that we will learn someday how to help those so painfully wounded, before they are compelled to act out in such destructive ways toward both themselves and others.
