THE YELLOW BRICK ROAD

The Yellow Brick Road (10-29-09) is the result of fussing with one of my oldest photos. Not mad about it, but it tickles my imagination at least. I do keep trying to reclaim many of these old photos that didn't work back then but had something I really liked. However, I often wind up "going abstract" with them as there is no rescuing them in their original forms. Though the original for "The Yellow Brick Road" almost makes it. Here it is (untitled):

But I just can't get the "lighting" right (sort of hazy or greyish?) and still maintain the proper contrasts and details. Also, the angle at which I had to take the picture is off, and no amount of cropping and mild tilting could help it. Plus there are little areas I'd have to paint over in an already worrisome picture. So I went with what its shapes suggested instead, ambling down that yellow brick road.

THE HALF LIFE OF LAVENDER

The Half Life of Lavender is from another of my oldest folder of pix, just re-worked a few days ago. And that's about all I have to say about it except that I think it's the colors that make me like it enough to post today. I'm not all that taken with it's "texture" (been there, done that in other pix recently) but I guess it's OK.

LUNACENTRIC

Lunacentric (10-3-09) is yet another photo from that same really old folder of pix that I've been stuck in. Having a good time, but stuck nevertheless, wondering when I'll feel like moving on. I rarely crop photos this way but felt this particular photo called for it. I'd also usually not have cropped it so that the distant full moon was dead center, but again, that seems to work in this instance. At least for me. And, yes, the sky colors are somewhat saturated, to bring out the pink/lavender.

PROFILE

Profile (10-3-09) is a revision of another of my oldest photos, morphed by Photoshop and re-colored by Microsoft Picture Manager. It appears on my dreams & poetry blog earlier this month under another title that was influenced by the dream poem I posted it with. But even then I saw the profile of a person in this picture (looking to the viewer's left). So I've re-named it accordingly.

THROUGH MEMORY'S EYE

Through Memory's Eye (10-29-09) is from another of my oldest pix, just re-visioned yesterday. In a way, going through all these old photo folders is a glimpse back through memory's eye. And it's encouraging to see how often I remember exactly where I took these pictures four years ago. Seems my brain cells are still lighting up.

FALL FANDANGO

Fall Fandango (9-29-09) is from one of my oldest photos, just re-worked yesterday. I've clearly changed the color of these blossoms to reflect the intense autumnal feelings I've been having. Not that I set out to do that but once these shades appeared on my computer screen as I slid the hue indicator around, I knew they were what I was seeking. There's a bit of a problem, however, with these shades. In other programs (like Microsoft Picture Manager and on my desk top) they are slightly deeper and the shadows darker, which I prefer. But for some reason, at least in my browser, they are slightly lighter in blogger. And it does make a difference but what can one do about this difference in hue and intensity? I've long lived with a slight difference between what I see on my screen and what comes out of my printer, and even what I order from a print company online and have mailed to me. So here is another of those differences. Maybe someday I'll knuckle down and experiment with the color settings for my computer itself to see if that can help at all.
