A New Day, above, is only days old and just re-worked this morning. Again, I have to say this is an all too familiar way I work with photos, but maybe that's not bad. Could it be what is called a personal style? Usually I'm inclined to find the familiar in my picture edits boring, but today I'm enjoying it.

The Heart's Fold, below, is the same photo with a little less fussing done to it. And not only is its style the same, but the colors are those I tend to use again and again. However, I think today is a good day to take comfort in the familiar, what with May grey out there just starting to burn off and forest fires not all that far away still burning.

The Whistler is in the newest batch I've taken and was just edited this morning. It's proof positive I'm still struggling with a creative slough. Going after something different and not all that jazzed with the results. It occurred to me yesterday after complaining here about lots of my photography issues that maybe I really need to try entirely different subjects for photos. E.g., arrange some still lifes, do more architecture shots like I used to, get out at sunset (forget sunrise, aint' gonna happen, not with this slug-a-bed), etc. So I've got those ideas percolating and we'll see what we shall see. (That's the "royal we," I know I'm probably talking almost entirely to myself here.)

The photo above (titled "Red 1" temporarily) is quite new. But just old enough that the blooms in this pot have all now wilted. But what a spectacular display they were! A bit difficult (at least for me) to get any decent shots of being such a full, tumultuous grouping. At the risk of repeating myself, there's one thing (no matter how my pix turn out ultimately) that I love about taking them. Just the process of looking over a scene that's grabbed my attention, wondering about the best angles and distances from which to shoot, means I really see that I'm viewing. It's taught me to look much more closely at things in general, whether taking photos or not. Even more closely than I learned to look when I first started writing haiku.

The next photo, below (titled "Red 2" temporarily) is from that same batch as "Red 1." Warning, another explanation ahead: bright colors (especially white but also these sorts of reds and some yellows) give my camera fits. I think there's a technical adjustment I can make but I've read my manual twice now and always forget just what that might be. However, I must have caught these blooms in just the right light for a change.

And the last below (titled "Red 3" temporarily) is another from that group. The lines of those petals and their texture/sheen really please my eye. Plus those echoing shadows below.

Out of Hiding, above, is from a large batch of photos I just loaded to my computer this morning, two afternoons worth. I liked this one much more when it first showed up while I was trying different crops. Now I'm not so sure. Not that there's anything egregiously wrong with it, just that it echos way too many other photos I've produced.

Interloper, below, is from that same big batch:

"Interloper," too, was more pleasing on first glance. Guess I'm just feeling stuck in a creative rut. As I've said here probably way too many times before, once my new computer is up and I can get a better editing program, maybe I'll learn new approaches and get some fresh inspiration. Then there's also once I get that new camera; it, too, could make quite a difference. (A lot of the disappointment I have with my pix these days is due to my cameras failings with focus.) Learning more about the technology of digital photo taking would help, too. But how likely that is, well, not so much. It's a minor miracle I've coped with computers over the years, much less now when faced with "f-stops" and ISO and, oy, way too many other camera issues. I may not be a luddite, but I'm close enough to want to toss computer, camera, printer/scanner, et al, out the window on occasion.

It Gives One Pause is an old photo I stumbled across looking for a picture to go with my dreamku post today. It's actually an entirely different version of the photo I found. (You can see that one here: "In Light of Memory".) I have a ton of new nature pix to sort through but not much time today. And a building photo (even an old one) actually affords me a nice break from my usual non-representational and/or flora photos.
