THE PIXELATED GREEN MAN

The Pixelated Green Man is a new photo just worked on today. I initially took this photo of my Green Man (which is actually copper colored) paperweight to go with a poem I'm drafting. However, it's face hooked me this morning when I was casting about for something to post here and this is the result. (The Green Man is a common architectural motif throughout history; a face and sometimes entire body made of a leaf or leaves.)

By the way, I'm not using "pixelated" in the title to reference photo pixels, but in its old sense meaning a little crazy. As a child I thought that the word pixelated came from the word pixie. And that made sense to me back then, as if someone had spent too much time with the faeries and was now a little "off."

LIFE OF A PSYCHE

Life of a Psyche is a new edit of a recent photo. I've been working on it for some time this morning but am still not sure I've pinned what I was chasing after. However, I'm getting very close. Actually, that could describe what the life of the psyche is like: we only ever get close and closer yet. Then, the game plan changes. At least that's been my experience.

WAITING FOR THE LAST UNICORN

Waiting for the Last Unicorn is a new photo, just edited yesterday. I think I only applied one filter and know I did just some slight color modification, after cropping (it's a much bigger picture). It stands in sharp contrast to the four year old photo I just re-worked this morning (fifth version), which you can view here (called "Healing Crisis"). They're polar opposites not only visually but in terms of their affect, at least in what they draw from me. I won't go on as I promised myself I'd not do that sort of inner exploration here, but stick to the photos themselves.

LAST UTTERANCE

Last Utterance was just taken yesterday and worked on this morning. It's another of those I'm not at all sure about. But it has something that draws me so I'm posting it here. Sometimes just the process of posting and then seeing a problem photo up on this blog shakes loose whatever my hesitation is and leads to acceptance or a solution. Or, as in so many cases, an additional version of the picture.

OK, no sooner said than done ... here's The Devil's Tongue

On another topic, I've been considering just what I should call photos like these two. The original photo is almost entirely lost beneath all the editing. It just acts like a template. I'd call this type "computer generated art" but that doesn't give photographs their due as the jumping off point. Actually, I went through this a couple of years ago when planning for my first photo exhibit. I think what I came up with then is still about the best I can come up with: photo based computer art.

DRAWING FROM MEMORY

Drawing from Memory is a month old photo, recently re-worked. Not much I can say about it as it's obvious it's had several filters applied. I can only add that it reminds me of the drawings I did as a child, remembering what I'd seen during summer school break. Not that I particularly recall roses back then. I don't. But that sense of looking into things and the busy lines trigger memory. (My sketches/drawings even now tend to be rather "busy," with lots of lines and details.)

By the way, I posted a different version of this photo to my dreams & poetry blog today. (Me? Make only one version of a photo? :-D)

INCURSION, & GHOST RIDER

Incursion is a new photo, edited a couple days ago. I had lots of fun combining and re-combining various photoshop filters to get those bare twigs to wiggle. And, yes, that central color is rather bright but I like it. (Posts over the years to my dreams & poetry blog give testimony to how much I like fuchsia.)

And here's "Incursion" re-colored and named Ghost Rider. I'm almost always compelled after completing some heavy edit, to try just one last thing. And in this case, I wanted to see what effect cool colors would have with these shapes.
