ACCOMMODATION

"Accommodation" (3-2-15 4522e1) is another (slight) re-working of one of my oldest photos, from back in those days when I could take long photography walks. I especially miss the trees. I wondered back then (going on 6 years ago) if I'd ever get accustomed to them, having never seen such trees live when living back in New York. I can now say that I haven't grown accustomed to them. I find them just as astonishing.

MACROPHAGE

Yeah, "Macrophage" (8-23-09 5998v7b) is a rather gross title for a pic, but it's what I see every time I stumble over this relatively new version of a very old photo of mine. And I do seem to be stuck in a rather bio-microscopic view these days. Yesterday's pic is titled "Stem Cell." Then again, my dream poem today goes in the opposite direction, waxing cosmic. LOL, so I'm stretching as far away in either direction as I can get from right here where I am. As to this pic? Lots and lots of fudging in Photoshop, on top of earlier fussing in it's previous form.

STEM CELL

"Stem Cell" (6-5-09 1840v6a) was just morphed this morning from one of my oldest pix. Sadly, my growing experience with what sort of shot ultimately "works" has limited the chances I take now. Of course, I also used to take as many as a hundred different shots in one photo walk. Most of which wound up being deleted. However, the few that I retained back then have made it through many subsequent cullings of pix that I've done. Maybe it's more a matter of percentages than experience making me wary of taking chancy shots. The greater the number of shots, the greater the number of ones that "work" or at least have something viable to build a morph out of? Ack. Not sure what I'm getting at here. Whatever it is was triggered by missing those long photography walks I used to be able to take. And that old Gateway camera. Even with its low pixel count photos and tiny view screen, it still afforded me better pix overall than either of the two cameras I have now.

ALIENS AMONG US

"Aliens Among Us" (2-16-10 19887v3) was just morphed from a very old photo. And, yes, those are fiddle head ferns, again. Always love looking at them, live or in photos. But I'm not all that happy with this version, and I'm tired of working on pix. I've been at it this morning for some time and not getting anywhere other than beginning to wallow in "meh..." So thought I'd at least put up one with a bit of humor to it. Well, it's a little silly to me. Reminds me of the covers of those 1950's sci-fi short story pulp 'zines that my brother and I used to gobble up. (I've been thinking a lot about my now deceased younger brother. And in light of this post, I express my gratitude that he introduced me to sci-fi all those years ago.)

THE MOMENT PASSES

"The Moment Passes" (3-3-10 10002v7b) is another further morphing of an old morph of an even older pic. Yeah, right now I'm maybe a bit too fond of the surface blur function in Photoshop. But I just keep getting tugged to use it. I blush to admit sometimes because I've fudged so much with a pic that it's started going wonky. And blurring those ticky-tacky little boxes and unintended tiny straight lines that come with over editing is one way to try to get around that. Yes, I could always go back to the original but I want to hold on to the sum total of the effects I've applied so far. As in this case, sometimes judiciously applied surface blur is just the thing for an over fussed with pic, and I can rest with the results.

THE FEATHERED SERPENT

"The Feathered Serpent" (2-18-10 19938v6j) was just morphed yesterday out of an older morph of an even older photo. The title references the Mayan deity. When this version showed up on my screen (among the many, many pix I've made of the original photo) it put me in mind of Mayan art, and then Quetzalcoatl. I became fond of Mayan art and mythology when first working with the Xultun Tarot deck, decades ago. If you want to see a mind boggling range of images (photos of the ancient work and modern renderings) just Google for images of "the feathered serpent."

RIDING THE WAVES

"Riding the Waves" (3-22-15 016v2) was taken this morning during the walk back after attempting shots of that building I keep talking about that's going up across the street. (One pic may be vaguely passable out of 11.) This fiddle head fern is right outside our front gate and has been through a lot, I believe due to the drought. It and another one just across the sidewalk from it, have been cut way back twice, last spring and now. And they spring (you should pardon the pun) right back. They keep riding out the waves of change. BTW, rare for my pix, I did very little to this one. Minor cropping, and increased contrast. I like the busy look of it. I think it's the deep shadows that balance it all out for me. Though I hasten to add this is another pic that looks a bit different in blogger, than in my editing programs. E.g., the shadows aren't quite as dark, and show a bit more vague greenery than I see in MS Picture Manager.
