THE FURNACE

So, what can I say? "The Furnace" (8-23-09 5998v6c) was just tortured from a very old pic of a yellow rose. I have the same complaint today that I've been having a lot recently: nothing I've already done and nothing I'm doing now with pix is really appealing to me. "The Furnace," therefore, is another one I just settled on as I was tired of looking at pix and thinking "meh..." At least I can say that I do vaguely like the texture contrast between the very middle and the rest of the enclosing rose.

NO WAY OUT; & SUNDOWNER WINDS

The above is "No Way Out" (7-20-14 011v4). I so delight in looking at the patterns of fern branches, then a close second to that, taking pix of them. "Sundowner Winds" (7-20-14 011v3) below is the same photo much further fudged with. Yes, I'm rather fond right now of the Photoshop filter, chrome (it makes things look bubbly, liquid-like). Then further fussing the chrome filter results by (e.g.) inverting the colors, and other such things:

DANCE OF THE BONES

"Dance of the Bones" (7-19-14 001v25), believe it or not, is another version I made of the photo I took of that collage I made several days ago of my own flower photos. (A physical collage, much messy fun with cutting and pasting, i.e. not using the computer.) Just three of the many other versions I've made are in the July 20th post here. What I like in this one is that vaguely wood cut print effect. It's the result of many filters, and color inversions and re-inversions, and so on. I kept expecting this pic to go totally wonky on me with each thing I did to it. But it pretty much hung in, dancing away through it all.

INTROVERSION

I've been having a devil of time this morning finding and working on pix that I can feel at least content with using. I went through folder after folder, pic after pic, then version after version to settle (not all that happily) on one for my dreams & poetry blog. And I had two other earlier, very different versions of today's pic prepared to post here, with little enthusiasm. (That's not counting the versions I made and rejected first.) So when "Introversion" (6-22-09 2656v8) popped up on the screen in a last ditch effort to produce something better, I heaved a sigh of relief. At last, one I actually like. Of course, followed quickly by the disclaimer thought that it's probably only because it reflects my on-going mood these days. (Well, I tend to be introverted but sometimes, as these days, much more so.)

MOUNTAIN VIEW; & THE MOUNTAINS OF MOURNE

The above "Mountain View" (7-20-14 001v2) may not be a fabulous shot. But it is of one of my most favorite views these days so thought I'd share it. Those mountains change constantly depending on weather and time of day. This particular mid-morning they had low clouds draped over their tops. And in keeping with the mountain theme, below is "The Mountains of Mourne" (7-19-14 001v6), made from a photo of flower photos (:-D) a day earlier than the above. But for some reason when it flashed like this on my screen I thought immediately of that name:

BTW, the Mountains of Mourne are in Ireland where I've never been. And this pic does not resemble any photo I've seen of them. What can I say? Maybe poetic license should apply to wannabe photogs as well.

CITY OF NIGHT; PASSAGE; & ONWARD & UPWARD

"City of Night" (7-20-14 017v2) was just taken and fussed with yesterday, as were the other two posted here today. As I've probably said many times before, I am endlessly drawn to the lines and shadows of the outside stairs and railings in our retirement community. "Passage" (7-20-14 020v25) below, is a different, barely cropped shot:

"Passage" is actually the below photo, flipped on its side and massively filtered in Photoshop. Although I like the straight on view, there's something intriguingly suggestive (ancient Roman columns?) about the sidewise one in "Passage." Though it may be too clearly what it is, a wrong way pic.

In any case, here below is the unflipped, unfiltered pic, "Onward & Upward" (7-20-14 020v2):

SHADOWS COME IN ALL COLORS; GIVING UP THE GHOST; & JOURNEY INTO BURLWOOD

All three of the pix here today are from a photo of a collage I made two days ago. I cut the pieces from a stash of old photos of mine that just didn't work, for one reason or another, once I saw them in print. I've been using the backs of these old 4"X6" pix as filler for a notepad. Then I had a dream two days ago about shadows having color and felt urged to make a collage. Yeah, I could have used magazine pix or cut from the several old calendars I've saved. But felt challenged to use some of these "lost" pix in a creative way. Sad to say (at least for me) and not unexpected, I'm not over the moon about the resulting collage. (Though it may not actually be finished. I've got an itch to do some acrylic painting on it or maybe even use colored markers, or both. All that in addition to the glitter paints in various colors I have already painted between the shapes. I'm a sucker for glitter.) But despite the let down, I had the urge to take a photo of the collage and fool with that. These three here today are only a few of what I've come up with. Above is "Shadows Come In All Colors" (7-19-14 001v12). Below is "Giving Up The Ghost" (7-19-14 001v9):

And last below, a huge departure from the collage, is "Journey Into Burlwood" (7-19-14 001v10):
