LAYING DOWN THE PATTERN; STIRRING THE BREW; & STUDY IN MAUVE

All three pix today are from the same old photo. Same crop, but the first above, Laying Down the Pattern (7-17-10 10012e), is straightforward, no fussing. It's over three years old and has sat in its folder all that time unposted due to a little focus problem. (Which is what can happen when a much larger photo gets cropped so small. But I've never been able to make it "work" as a larger pic, even though each time I come across it I try cropping the full original yet another way.)

This second below, Stirring the Brew (7-17-10 10012v2), has clearly been massively fudged with in both Photoshop and MS Picture Manager:

And the third below, Study in Mauve (7-17-10 10012ev7), has also been obviously heavily edited:

Why so often do I make several versions of a picture? Mostly because as I go along I see results I like but I don't yet feel settled on, so I save them, just in case. Then when I settle on a version, I've got those I'd saved along the way still calling to my imagination.

THE OLD SWIMMING HOLE & THERE'S ALWAYS A HOOK

Yup, been fooling around again with old pix of mine. This one above is called The Old Swimming Hole (7-17-10 10004v7). One of those I like for some obscure reason, since when I look at it "objectively" I'm ready to click on delete.

And here's "The Old Swimming Hole" totally morphed into There's Always A Hook (7-17-10 10004v3), below. Also not sure what I like about this one. (Maybe for both of these pix it's just an artifact of the fun I had doing the editing.) --

ON THE DEFENSIVE

The original for On the Defensive (5-9-12 11914v3) is about a year and a half old. And, no, I did not use the spherize filter on this. The picture was taken looking straight down from above at a little round cactus. However, that's not to say I didn't use lots of other Photoshop filters on this one. I sure did. I'm not certain I like the results but I know what I was aiming for once it began to call to me. And I'm also not certain of the composition. Ah well, there I go, getting defensive.
