SQUARED CIRCLE; & LOOKING BACK

"Squared Circle" (9-20-14 035v8) above, was just taken yesterday and worked on this morning, as was a different shot of the same stairs that has become "Looking Back" (034v4) below:

As I've said here many times before I'm sure, I really enjoy taking pix of the outdoor staircases we have on the grounds of the retirement community in which I live. I had a slew of other sorts of pix in my camera yesterday and as I approached my front door I suddenly remembered how close a staircase was. So I hobbled down the hall to it. And as often happens the pix I took last and fussed over least as I did, have turned out to be about the only ones worth more than a second look in a big batch. I'm beginning to think it has to do with not thinking quite so much about it all. Just riding the initial urge a bit more, as I used to do when I first started taking pix several years back. Though not to stop thinking entirely. I have learned some tech stuff over the years. Rather, not losing the initial inspiration underneath all the gizmos and caveats.

BRUSHING IT OFF

"Brushing It Off" (8-22-14 002v15b) is yet another version of a recent pic just wrestled with this morning. There are a couple versions of the same pic I might actually like more visually, but this one suits my mood better.  A bit subdued though actively effortful.

RAIN DREAM; & DRINKING IT UP

Yup, I've got rain on the brain today. "Rain Dream" (12-6-09 8496ev2) above, was just fussed out of one of my oldest pix, as was "Drinking It Up" (8525ev2) below:

Not much else to say except that I don't usually find I like the "rough pastels" filter, but here it nicely implies rain as it goes with the overall slant of each pic's objects. I did quite a bit more than apply the pastel filter to these pix, BTW. But it was the one that finally made me feel they were finished. Or as finished as they're going to get any time soon. Oh, and yes, we're still in a drought here which goes a long way toward explaining the rain theme.

IMPASTO MOON

"Impasto Moon" (8-22-14 016v13p) is from a month old photo (along with a slew of other morphs of the same original pic). As I often say here, I have mixed feelings about it. But today the positive ones outweigh any questions or problems.

RIOTOUS ROSE

"Riotous Rose" (8-4-13 003v17) has been hanging around ready for posting for over a month. Along with most of the other versions I made of its original photo. It's odd how over time those I don't like will occasionally become OK and sometimes even likable. Maybe it's a matter of familiarity breeding respect, as opposed to contempt in those cases? :-) Though sometimes I know it's just having found a satisfying title that makes a pic post-worthy. That's largely the case here. And I think that's because finding the right words requires really looking. Not rushing over the pic, or conversely, getting stuck on one aspect. I hasten to add this is not to say I think this is one of my better photomorphs. It's not. But it's not awful either. I kinda, sorta, like it.

RAINY DAY ROSE

What a day. The rain of the photomorph title is only metaphorical and wishful (we're still in a drought), but my mood is certainly cloudy enough. I've been looking at and working on photos for most of the morning. And this one, "Rainy Day Rose" (9-13-14 001v4) is not really all that pleasing to my eye. But it is the best of a series of not-so-good-at-all pix I've got crowding the same folder. All from the same original rose photo. Ah well, tomorrow's another day ... and I've certainly no lack of pix with which to fool around.

PROMENADE

"Promenade" (8-16-14 001v2) is a new pic I've had only awaiting some cleaning up in order to post. There was a long light brown broom handle sticking out from behind that tree grabbing a viewer's attention, that had to go once I was up to fussing at it. I'm often surprised at background distractions in my pix that I did not see "live." I think maybe it's as much a matter of the "flattening" effect of two dimensions, as any lack of observing "live" on my part. I.e., two dimensions make background stuff appear closer to the eye, and therefore more noticeable. Just a theory ...
