SUN LION

Not much to say about "Sun Lion" (12-7-14 013v3a) except that it's just been morphed out of a new photo. And that it's ultimate appearance was heavily influenced by looking forward to having longer days again. Once I began to see a lion in its center, that is. Before that I had no idea where I might want to go with it. (Just as with several other pix I fooled with this morning.) I've really got to do something about learning the finer ins and outs of my two cameras. For quite some time I've not been happy with most of the pix I'm getting with either of them. And I think that has more to do with not wanting to deal with their manuals, than it does with what they can and can't do when I use their various auto-focus settings. (E.g., I need to, sigh, get into adjusting things like white balance and such.) BTW, when I say "not happy" with the pix I mean mostly their poor focus. So that I then wind up morphing the behoosits out of them if I use them at all. Not that I mind morphing, I definitely enjoy it. But almost every shot I take is because it's something I'd like to have a true and "as is" photo of. E.g., it's disappointing to have a snap of an intriguingly shaped blossom or shadowed staircase turn out to be unuseable unless fudged with in some artsy fashion. Oy! How many times have I started a post here saying I didn't have much to say? :-)

FABRIC OF THE UNIVERSE

LOL! What strikes me most right now is that I used the word "universe" in one of yesterday's pic titles, too. Can we spell "inflated," children? But now to "Fabric of the Universe" (11-26-14 001v9) itself, it's clearly been massively fudged with in Photoshop. It's one of those that I just kept going on, applying filter on top of filter, to see what would happen. I stopped when this rough burlap look showed up as I really like it. Oddly enough, the effect is not a result of the burlap filter, but the upshot of layering many others.

THE UNIVERSE NEXT DOOR; & TENDER

"The Universe Next Door" (12-7-14 015v4) above, is a brand new version of a very new photo. I'm not all that enamored of it, but it's one of those that does lightly tickle my imagination. "Tender" (12-7-14 015v3) below, is from the same original pic, and again I'm not mad about it. But it's softness appeals to me at this time of the year. (Especially with a huge rain storm slated to hit us this evening, and very chilly grey skies out there right now.)

I hasten to add I'm endlessly grateful for the rain. E.g., without it, no roses like the one these pix were my attempts to capture something about, if only in a small way.

AFTER THE STORM

"After the Storm" (12-2-14 026v2) was taken just as the recent rain storm we had was ending. Happily, we're due for another soaker in a day or two. Of course, one worries about mudslides in fire ravaged areas, but we sure do need the rain. Back to the pic: this staircase is just a matter of yards from my front door. So I often hobble over there at the end of a photo walk to look at it, and the courtyard and palms. Taking pix of an area like this presents an even greater challenge now since I use my wide angle lens camera almost exclusively. (Can't cart both cameras, and the wide angle one takes better pix overall.) I have to do even more camera tilting and fussing at getting vertical lines in sync than ever. And with the tiny view screen on a compact digital camera (not to mention my aging eyes) that's saying something. However, it's also part of the fun of it all. What's life without a few creative challenges.

BUTTERFLY CONNECTION; & ALL AFLUTTER

Sigh, "Butterfly Connection" (11-26-14 001v2a) above, is one of those that prompted a little yelp of delight when it first appeared on my screen. But that response "cooled" very rapidly. I think with those sorts of reactions what delights me is the comparative newness of whatever effects have been produced by my fussing. Once I settle in to really look at the pic, other issues rise. However, I hasten to add, I do still like this one. Just not as much as on first gander.

I'm actually liking the source version of the pic (below) a bit better, "All Aflutter" (11-26-14 001v2):

HER LAST WALTZ

"Her Last Waltz" (12-7-14 019v4) is brand new pic, just morphed this morning. It's of another of my favorite objects to photograph: flowers at their last gasp. I sometimes wonder what my neighbors think as I try this or that angle on a tattered almost petal-less rose. Should one ask I'd say that I'm hoping to capture something of its uncommon beauty.

KOKOPELLI

Can you guess? "Kokopelli" (12-7-14 005v6) was not only just taken and morphed today, but is one of several versions already in the folder. I pretty much like them all, but this one gets top and solo billing for now. (Probably mostly because I have a special fondness for this humped back, flute playing, american indian figure, that goes back decades to when I collected and improvised on many different kinds of wind instruments. If you'd like to see a highly impressive array of Kokopelli images, just click on that link and scroll down.)
