ANGLING FOR THE ISLANDS

"Angling for the Islands" (2-13-17 022v2) was taken the same day as the source pic for yesterday's post. I'm always uncertain about that off-kilter fence in the foreground, but that is how it is. However, it's also why I often crop it out altogether. In this instance, I'm leaving it in as it actually led to the pic's title before I'd even finished cropping, and improving color contrasts, etc. Sigh, whenever I make a title integral to the pic I remember the on-going friendly disagreement I had with a friend here (now deceased...). He felt titles were totally uncalled for and too controlling of what the viewer might or might get from a pic. I would always point out the minute a photog frames a shot s/he is controlling what any viewer will see. And that, at least in my experience, a title can broaden my sense of a pic. Anyway, how's all that for angling for approval for what I still think of as a problem: that tilty fence (smile). BTW, the islands? They're barely peeking out from the clouds on the horizon.

AFTER THE STORM

"After the Storm" (2-13-17 003v2) is a month old pic just now fixed up. Not much done to it. Some cropping (for proper posting dimensions only), shadow lightening, color saturation, and sharpening (but not much as it was a hazy view that morning). Hope I don't bore with all these different shots of this same view I've been posting here. But I never tire of snapping in this direction at the overlook park. It never looks the same even two hours in a row, much less a day or two later. Once I'm done with this computer session I'll be getting out and about, headed right for this park where I'm meeting a friend. BTW, after all the time I've been walking there I finally noticed the sign at the front right of it the other day. It's named Pescadero Park (the road that dead ends at it is Camino Pescadero). Yikes! I just looked at this pic in the blogger view and it's a bit darker than in MS Picture Manager or Photoshop. This is such a frustrating issue. I work to get colors and contrasts the way I want them, and then blogger messes with them. Yeah, I know, I've moaned about this problem here many times before. And, yes, it's possible it has more to do with the color settings of my computer screen (though I do doubt that). Anyway, please know that the flora on the left may not be quite as dark as it appears on your screen, though it is definitely shadowy, as are the wood fence and stairs.

MIND GAMING

"Mind Gaming" (6-22-09 2656v9h) was just now morphed from (yup!) a very old morph of an even older original pic, one of my oldest. What else to say ... I was having great fun fussing with it. Went through a bunch of other versions that I could very well have saved but did not. I'm really disciplining myself to keep the number of versions of any particular pic way down. The load on my computer is not only tremendous but ultimately not necessary as I always save the source pic. (That's not to say I save every pic I take. Not at all, just those that have "something.") As to any versions thereof? Passing thoughts and urges along the way. Many times I look at versions and wonder just why I saved them anyway. And then there's how my tastes and skills change over time, too. Not to mention that at this end of life (my 73rd year) things are becoming more and more a matter of letting go. Or rather, not grasping after what's gone or clearly well on the way out. So not holding on to an outrageous number of pic versions is not only practical but a healthy exercise.

MAY I OFFER YOU A HAND?

"May I Offer You A Hand?" (6-5-09 1837v2a) was just morphed from an extremely old version of one of my oldest pix ever. It's a total surprise. I was simply fooling around in this folder with pix of eucalyptus tree branches, as my long walk earlier today was down a long path lined with eucalyptus trees. (I was in seventh heaven as I love trees.) And as I messed with this particular pic it began to take me to all sorts of silly places with the shapes that showed up. When this version popped on my screen I was delighted. All I did to it then was saturate the colors a bit and sharpen it.

THE DAY BRIGHTENS

The original pic for "The Day Brightens" (2-27-17 027v2) was taken the same day, in the same beach overlook park, as that moody, black and white pic I posted here yesterday. I brightened this one's aspect slightly, and yesterday's I made somewhat darker. But in some odd way, both pix reflect my experience of that mid-morning visit.

A FOGGY DAY IN COLLEGE TOWN

"A Foggy Day in College Town" (2-27-17 024v2a) is very new. I've had this crop and conversion to black and white on my desk top since making it a few days ago. I tend to change pix daily but I'm rather more happy with this one than I usually am with any of my pix. Think I'll leave it up there even a bit longer. BTW, the bench on the left is my favorite to sit at.

PARROT FISH

"Parrot Fish" (1-26-17 017v2h) was just now fudged out of an older morph of a fairly recent pic. Not all that taken with it, but I'm too tired and cranky to move on to anything else. And I do kinda, sorta like the "texture" (crayon or pastel-like?) and I definitely like the colors.
